This week marks a major milestone for the Binny software as we are rolling out our first official non-beta release! This update comes with several new features, quality-of-life improvements, and bug fixes. The full details of this update are included below.
New Features
Graphical User Interface (GUI)
As Binny becomes more configurable and allows for further user interaction, we knew that a proper user interface was required. With Binny version 1.0.0, we’ve built out an intuitive user interface that allows for easy configuration and monitoring of the Binny platform.

Background Task
During our beta release period, we found Binny quickly becomes a critical part of the order delivery process in our customer’s shops. In the interest of keeping Binny out of users’ way and preventing accidental closures, we changed how Binny behaves when closing the window. Clicking the ‘X’ in the top-right corner now minimizes Binny to the system tray, where it will continue to check for orders in the background.
Label Pausing
You asked, and we listened! Several shops expressed interest in the ability to “pause” labels when a bin is being utilized for a more long-term job. When paused, labels continue to update the vendor name and last order date to stay current, but will not be overwritten by other orders. Labels can be paused through the Labels page in the user interface, and the paused status is displayed both in the Binny software as well as on the corresponding label.

Ignore lists
In version 0.0.05, we introduced the “Ignored PO Numbers” list to prevent specific stock or bulk orders from allocating bins. With this new update, we’ve made the ability to add and remove ignored entries much easier through the Settings page. Additionally, we added an “Ignored Vendors” list. This has been found to be especially useful for vendors that deal in larger parts that would not normally fit in a bin, such as tires, motors, transmissions, etc.

More Quality of Life Improvements
In addition to the major features listed above, we have sprinkled in several quality-of-life improvements that may not necessarily be ground breaking on their own, but add up to improve the overall experience of working with Binny. These improvements include:
- Removal of Java as a dependency
- Improved credential management
- Separate date and time fields for improved label readability
Update Process
Updating to Binny v1.0.0 is a two part process. First, we recommend uninstalling any old versions of Binny; then run the Binny v1.0.0 installer in the freshly cleaned environment. The steps detailed below cover each step of this process.
Binny Uninstallation
- Version 0.0.03 and up include an uninstaller that can be run via the the Windows “Installed apps” settings.
- After uninstalling Binny, the Postgresql database can also be uninstalled via the Windows “Installed apps” settings page.
- Note: This uninstaller leaves residual files. To fully remove Postgresql, you will need to delete the PostgreSQL folder in the Program Files directory (C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL)
Install Binny v1.0.0
- The Binny installation package can be downloaded from our Downloads page
- Once downloaded, you will need to Extract all and run the ‘Binny Installer’ program
- After installation, follow the steps detailed in the Initial Setup guide to configure your Binny/ESL Server environment.
Moving Forward
While we are thrilled to deliver version 1.0.0 of the Binny software, we have no intentions of slowing down now. Our sights are already set on the next wave of features to continue to improve the Binny platform as a whole.
